Today is Monday, and we meditate on the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary. These Mysteries reflect on the early life of Jesus and Mary, capturing moments of hope, faith, and God’s grace. Let’s begin the Joyful Mysteries.

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Say the Apostles’ Creed

Hold the crucifix and recite:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.

Say the Our Father

On the first large bead, pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Say Three Hail Marys

For an increase in the virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity:

On the next three small beads, say:
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Say the Glory Be

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

1. The First Joyful Mystery: The Annunciation

(Before each decade, announce the Mystery and reflect on it.
Say the Our Father on the large bead.)

The Angel Gabriel greets Mary and tells her she is to be the mother of God. Mary replies, “I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”

Contemplate Mary’s answer to God’s call as we pray.

Our Father, who art in heaven,

2. The Second Joyful Mystery: The Visitation

Mary sets out to stay and care for her cousin Elizabeth, pregnant with John the Baptist. Elizabeth greets her, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”

Meditate on these words as we pray.

3. The Third Joyful Mystery: The Birth of Jesus

An angel appears to shepherds at night saying to them: “Do not be afraid; for see, I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.”

And that night they see God, born in a manger in Bethlehem.

Imagine this scene and this joy as we pray.

4. The Fourth Joyful Mystery: The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple

Mary and Joseph take Jesus to the temple and meet Simeon – a man to whom God had revealed that he would not die until he had met the Savior.

Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, “This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed-and a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

Place yourself in this scene as we pray.

5. The Fifth Joyful Mystery: The Finding of Jesus in the Temple

Jesus went missing for three days. They “found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, ‘Child, why have you treated us like this?’”

“He said to them, ‘Why were you searching for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?’”

Enter into this passage through Mary and Joseph’s eyes as we pray.

After completing the five decades, recite the Hail, Holy Queen prayer:

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Closing Prayer

Let us pray.
O God, whose only-begotten Son,
by his life, death, and resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life,
grant, we beseech thee,
that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary
of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we may imitate what they contain
and obtain what they promise,
through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Michael Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help,
or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee do I come,
before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
